The Wrap-Up. I Need to Know...

What I have learned about personal branding and social media in this course is it is hard to make a name for yourself or your company. It is also hard to create meaningful content. The wise thing is to leverage the experience of those already in the field if they are willing to mentor you. You have to gain an audience and once you have gained it you have to maintain it and stay engaged on your social media platforms. I also learned that there is no way for you to manage a large number of platforms effectively so you have to choose the best couple and do your best with that until you are large enough to hire a team. Social media done correctly could make your brand but only if done well.   What I would like to have an opportunity to learn more about is how to truly make something go viral. I know I can get a how to guide but there doesn’t seem to be a way to know how a project will perform automatically but there has to be a way to eliminate the randomness. It seems that most things

Here We Go! BMT Dry Run

My plans for my podcast is to create a safe space for conversation with my audience. My area of interest is teen motivation and encouragement. Big Man Talking, BMT, is intended to meet the audience, teens, where they are and lead them to where they can go.

Shoot Your Shot

When preparing to craft and launch my business social media platforms I slowed my approach like getting ready for a golf shot. I needed to visualize my approach, address the task and then swing. Based on advice to “keep social media profiles limited to a couple of networking platforms” (Jensen, n.d.) in order to maintain visibility I decided to stick to just LinkedIn and Instagram. I chose LinkedIn to build a community and generate exposure with adults and Instagram for the youth. When creating my profile I turned to LinkedIn for tips on how to do it best. In their 20 steps to a better LinkedIn profile in 2020 LinkedIn outlined a great profile has the following; the right profile picture, the right background photo, a headline that is more than a job title, turned the summary into my story, don’t use useless buzzwords, list relevant skills, and spotlight my services. (Fleming, 2020) Although there are other areas these seven seem to aide my brand. Some professional networks in my a

Vlog Like a Model

When researching for the assignment of finding a vlog in my area of interest, motivational speaking and life coaching, that uses the video platform I chose, YouTube, I discovered a prolific vlogger in the field Valorie Burton. Mrs. Burton’s vlog, https://www.youtube.com/c/valorieburton/featured , puts on full display my reasons for choosing YouTube as a hosting platform. It is extremely easy to navigate, has easy subscriptions enrolment, and allows for easy embedding of singular videos to my home page. For an example see how Mrs. Burton used that feature on https://valorieburton.com/ . Outside of being a prolific vlogger Mrs. Burton also doesn’t shy away from uncomfortable topics that need to be addressed. She seems to have dedicated her life’s work to coaching people to improve their lives and mentoring others who endeavor to do the same. Although her focus is not exclusively focused on teens I am her method and presentation which confronts issues with thought provoking questions

Leverage The Pros Knowledge

I noticed when preparing for this assignment there is no shortage of people in the space I am looking to enter. There are literally thousands of motivational speakers and life coaches within the U.S. alone. With that level of market saturation one must find a way to separate themselves from or leverage the knowledge of the competition. What makes market leaders, and their blogs, successful varies. However, I was able to identify five blogs that align with the vision of my personal brand and flow in a way that would allow for assimilation into my blog and brand. Each of the sites I found, listed below, has their at least one strength that could prove useful to my brand. The Motivational Humorist Speaker blog has content that engages serious topics but defuses their consumer anxiety with humor and it has clearly visible Call To Actions, buttons, within the site structure that may prove useful in getting engagements booked. The Motivational Speaker blog uses a setup that links content

Missed Opportunity

In the immortal words of Eldrick Woods – HELLO WORLD!   Welcome to Big Man Talking. I am Ed Williams, a 6’5” 275 pound thorn in the side and necessary irritant to some and a welcomed friend and champion to others. A native New Orleanian who loves people, culture and food. I have had the pleasure of living in and traveling to many places around the world like England, Korea, Guam and others which has given me a perspective that many in our nation may not have. I believe that perspective is needed now more than ever. My life’s mission is to bringing hope to those without it and be a bridge to new worlds of thought and interaction. I welcome you to follow me and my blog as we endeavor to make our world a better place. I promise you that from me you will get what the kids around me call THE REAL; no fairytales, no false promises, just real talk and hard conversations that challenge perspectives and hopefully brings about change. I welcome your feedback and interaction.

Step Into A World....

Greetings all!  I have created my blog page after much struggle. I look forward to learning and growing with you. I am a active duty Air Force Airman, father, husband and Saints Fan, WHO DAT! If I can figure out how to use it properly I would like to use this blog to communicate to young people about the challenges that exist beyond their parents house. I pray that you all are staying safe and mentally sharp. If no one told you today please know that you have value and the world is better with you in it.
